Tiago Alcântara started his career as a Photographer in 2007 while he was studying photography at IADE - Institute of Art, Design and Enterprise. During that period he found himself specially drawn into subjects such as riots and black blockers around his birth city - Lisbon. On 2007 a huge protest took place at the downtown area of Lisbon during the celebrations of the April 25th Anniversary. Tiago decided to stay at the scene and to photograph the riot that was taking place. Although Tiago was brutally beaten by the police and found most of his equipment destroyed, none of the actual films were damaged. He decided to go to a local newspaper - Jornal Expresso - to sell his images and got his first images published as a freelance photographer.
He made his first exhibition in 2007 on a collective exhibition called - Lisbon ”Open Work - Project 07” at The Communications Museum where he had seven art work photos and one video installation.
After finishing his studies as a Designer in IADE in 2012, he decided to move to Macao (SAR), China, a city he had lived for about a decade back in the 90’s, when he was still a teenager.
Once in Macau Tiago worked in a local newspaper called Hoje Macau as an intern photojournalist and where he had made friends for life, which helped him to gain a different vision about photography and journalism.
Started is career as a Designer in 2013 wile working for a local Foundation as a Multimedia Design Assistant where he start photographing and reporting exhibitions from all over the world. During that time, Tiago was also creating posters, leaflets, as well as, multimedia presentations with typography and time lapse techniques for the Foundation’s gallery.
On December 2015, Tiago was awarded with the first prize of an International Amnesty Photography Contest.
Worked as a Studio Manager for Core Productions Ltd. in 2016. Throughout 2016 to 2018 worked as a freelance photojournalist for Macau Magazine and several local media companies. In 2017 worked as an Audio Visuals Technician for Pin Fok Multimedia Ltd., during the constructions and assembly of MGM, Cotai Theatre Between 2018 and 2019 worked as an Audio & Video Producer for Macau Business. From 2019 to 2022 worked for JWCC Architecture as a Graphic Content Creator and for Asia Entertainment Pioneer Ltd. as a Graphic Designer.
