The Economic Housing Cooperative COPALM was built between 1985 and 1989 and was based on the construction of the parish of Massamá in the council of Sintra. COPALM was then one of the founding neighbourhoods of the parish of Massamá. The Economic Housing Cooperative COPALM is located in the center of the parish, close to the Sintra Line Train Station and The Shopping Mall Center. The COPALM project initially planned to build the entire parish, reducing itself only to the construction of a neighbourhood, a primary school and a church. COPALM has, at It’s base, social objectives of building an economical housing neighbourhood. In the coordination of it's construction, the Architect José Alfredo Franqueira Baganha and the Engineers José Carlos Silva Carvalho and Guilherme Saraiva B. and Vasconcelos were behind.
