Ras Nunukah Biography Ras Nunukah was born in Green Cape in Santiago’s Island, from an early age the music had been always part of the environment where he grew up and seized the fundamental values of life. Influenced by Reggae since the late eighties when his mother offered him a tape of Bob Marley & The Wailers. In the mid 90s he started with a project called BRAINS, where he started first as a percussionist and then as a bass player, in a project where the sound passes through the traditional rhythms of Green Cape, such as Batuku, Funaná and Kolá, in a fusion with Rock and Reggae. In 2001 Ras Nunukah arrives in Portugal for the first time, to join the university in Figueira da Foz city, where he started to work with a group of Selectors called LDC (Free Consumer Sound) where they traveled through some cities in Portugal, always with a proper identity, mixing and singing in Creole with the Jamaican Patois. 2009 he moved to Lisbon, where he continued his work with the selectors, this time with the collective Creole living in Lisbon, the Mindel Reggae Family, they toured many cities in Portugal and presenting in Spain, Luxembourg and France. In 2010 together with other comrades, started the Polon Lions project, in which he assumed the role of singer and percussionist of the band, until 2012. He and other comrades began the project Rubera Roots Band, in which Ras Nunukah takes the lead role vocal of the band, the band released 2 singles, and one album. Since then Ras's career has been influenced by Rubera Roots, having already performed more than a hundred concerts in Portugal, Spain and Green Cape, having already performed twice consecutively in the biggest reggae festival in Europe and the world, Rototom Sunsplash. Between 2016 and 2017 with Rubera Roots Band, Ras Nunukah had bean part of many contributions and collaborations with many national and international artists such as Ras Damula from Angola, Haileman from Guinea Bissau, Likle Mystic and Michael Fabulous from Jamaica, Tuff Lion from Virgin Islands USA and many more, sharing recordings and the stage.
